KATY'S ePORTFOLIO

This is my Science Fair Project. I worked with Olivia, Kyle V, and Milo on creating a prototype of our idea, PlatyPower. PlatyPower is a platform in the middle of the ocean that combines waterpower, airpower, and solar power to make a superior green energy source. In the end, I was really proud of our prototype. It even stood up by itself! :) I learned a lot about how solar panels and hydropower dams work. One thing I would try to do better is researching. Even though my group researched quite a lot, some of the research wasn't exactly relevant and I think it would have helped to have better research. Overall, I am very proud of how our science project turned out.

This is the "building" that my group - Helen, Joshua, Andrew, and I made. We were supposed to create a building able to withstand two minutes' worth of shaking from a shake table. Each group was given a location, budget, and number of floors required. My group was stationed in Delhi, India, with a budget of 1.5 million and a 3-floor requirement. At first we were worried about budget, but Mr. Stuart let us cut salaries of workers by 30%, which helped quite a lot. We also learned while we were building that our primary design wouldn't stand up- we pretty much just added supports everywhere that the building was unstable. We ended up coming out with a bunch of triangles, which we later learned were very good at holding weight. Thankfully, our building was successful!
